Bringing New Life to a Welford on Avon Bungalow – Living Room Skim for Trudie

At Cooper Plastering, we take great pride in helping homeowners across Warwickshire refresh and modernize their spaces. One of our recent projects took us to Welford on Avon, where we had the pleasure of working with Trudie on her lovely bungalow living room.

Trudie wanted her living room — the heart of the home — to feel lighter, fresher, and more contemporary. Her existing ceiling had dated textures, and the walls had seen better days. Our job was to skim the large living room ceiling and all four walls, creating a beautifully smooth, clean finish ready for painting and decorating.

The Brief

When Trudie first contacted us, she explained she wanted to avoid the disruption of tearing everything out and reboarding. We assured her that skimming was the perfect, non-invasive way to achieve a modern look while keeping costs and mess to a minimum.

The Process

Here’s what we did to transform the space:

• Preparation: Before any plaster was mixed, we protected floors and furniture with dust sheets and plastic sheeting. We cleaned the existing surfaces, filled minor imperfections, and applied bonding agent (PVA) to ensure excellent adhesion.

• Ceiling Skim: The large ceiling was tackled first. We applied two coats of premium British Gypsum Multifinish plaster to create a silky-smooth ceiling.

• Wall Skim: Each wall was prepared, taped where necessary, and meticulously skimmed to remove any lumps, bumps, or cracks.

• Detail Work: Special attention was paid to corners and edges, ensuring seamless transitions that would make decorating easy.

The work was completed smoothly and efficiently over two days, allowing the plaster to set and dry to a perfect standard.

The Result

The living room was completely transformed — bright, fresh, and ready for Trudie to add her personal style with a coat of paint and some new furnishings.
